2003 Dodge Ram's BD's new Ram 2003 turbo mount exhaust brake casting bolts in place of the existing elbow where it is clamped to the turbo outlet and exhaust system. BD's "Variable orifice technology" has been incorporated into this air engagement design that results in peak retarding power throughout the engine's operating rpm. The spring loaded air cylinder closes the offset Stainless Steel butterfly and Stainless Steel shaft which rotates in a special bushing material to ensure that the butterfly does not stick closed or open. The butterfly has been positioned in the exhaust brake elbow so when open exhaust flow is not reduced. A threaded port for mounting an exhaust temperature probe and a port with 1/4 SS line connected is a simple method to monitor retarding performance. BD's lighted on/off toggle switch is wired into an electronic idle verification board for quick exhaust brake engagement. The durable air compressor that is included can also be used for other applications; it's a Ram tuff product. Installing a BD exhaust brake adds safety to your towing experience. |

99-02 ISB 24 Valve BD's 3" vacuum cylinder with a progressive spring loaded piston delivers 100 psi apply & release pressure. The exclusive alumibronze bushings prevent shaft sticking. The free flowing elbow casting incorporates an off set stainless steel butterfly. Once the engine has reached the peak retarding pressure the offset butterfly compresses the spring and calibrates the retarding HP. It beats anything else in the industry! BD's casting simply bolts in place of an existing elbow. It’s attached into the trucks vacuum system for control. No engine modifications are needed on the 24 valve engines. For peak retarding power on the 12-valve engine we have H/D exhaust springs available. |

The Turbo Mounted Vacuum actuated Exhaust Brake, (compression retarder) is available for the 2001 Ford V8 7.3 PowerStroke diesel. This BD Exhaust Brake simply replaces the stock rear portion of the waste gated turbine housing. The casting incorporates BD’s exclusive AlumiBronze bushing and piston ring sealed butterfly shaft that has proven to stand up to the exhaust emission environment. The brake incorporates BD’s exclusive Variable Orifice technology, where the spring loaded piston in the powerful 3" vacuum cylinder is compressed by the off set stainless steel butterfly once the peak retarding pressure is achieved. BD Variable Orifice exhaust brakes provide superior performance that starts at 1200 rpm with peak retarding hp achieved by 1800 rpm and then it just holds on right through the rpm range! The kit includes, a complete wiring harness, vacuum hoses and for the 99-01 models a heavy-duty vacuum pump and bracket to bolt in place of the stock vacuum pump. |

The DuraMax Exhaust Brake is now Available! BD Engine Brakes enable your Diesel to navigate downhill grades and mountainous terrain easier and safer than using the vehicle's conventional braking system. This will increase the life of the stock foundation brakes and also prevent brake fade under severe grade driving. The factory-approved backpressure provides the retarding horsepower to slow down the vehicle on even the steepest descents or just slowing down for a highway off ramp. The exhaust flow is not restricted when the stainless butterfly is open in the large 4” casting that bolts into the exhaust system. The kit is complete with a lighted toggle switch for mounting conveniently on the dash. The brake releases as soon as the throttle is applied or the switch is flipped off. As in other BD designs, the backpressure is self-regulating. Once the pressure reaches the DuraMax specification, the butterfly position changes to maintain the highest pressure possible. This variable orifice design offers far superior retarding performance throughout the engine RPM range compared to a fixed orifice design that only offers peak retarding performance at peak rpm. The new Allison equipped DuraMax is designed to downshift once the tow/haul button is selected, which results in a Silent Retarding Force at all vehicle speeds. |
